News: Fox at the Foundry

22 September 2011

We recently completed this sculpture of a fox on a tree stump for Scottish sculptor Kenny Hunter. Kenny, based in Glasgow, is known for his works in the public domain and is seen as one of Scotland's foremost contemporary artists. This particular work is destined for the Robbie Burns museum and this 'wee, sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie' will be unveiled next year on Burns Night.

The piece came in two parts, the model of the fox and the tree stump with chain attached. Casting the cavity between the fox’s front legs, the knot hole in the tree stump and keeping the detail of the graining on the log, was far from straightforward and presented Pete Lodge, foundry supervisor, with some technical challenges.

However, he overcame these and when Kenny visited the foundry to inspect the work he was pleased with the finished results. We all look forward to seeing him at his new home next year.
