News: Kenny Hunter's The Unknown

16 October 2012

It was great to see Scottish artist Kenny Hunter back at the foundry. Having cast 'Liberty Regained' last year (see our Gallery pages) we were delighted to be able to cast The Unknown for him.

The piece will be permanently located in Borgie Forest in the far north of Sutherland. The Unknown is a new departure for Kenny – a major landscape work where the journey to it and the rich history of the wild landscape in which it is set, are essential components of the work.

The Unknown was officially launched on October 13th 2012.

From a casting point of view The Unknown presented several real challenges. The shape and depth of cavity within the rib cage meant creating a core in three pieces that could then be removed without undercutting. Also the position of the fingers in relation to the legs and each other required as many sand cores as metatarsals!
