Test Sites. Cast for Antony Gormley 2010

Test Sites presented an entirely different type of challenge from many of the previous art castings produced for Antony Gormley. The moulds are based on Polystyrene models made by the artist, not sand moulds. The approach is similar to 'lost wax' casting, in this case 'lost polystyrene'. In addition to a difference in the technical approach, we were also on a tight deadline with over 10 tonnes of iron, cast in eight different block work sculptures.

Equally challenging was the imperative to retain the absolute precision of the artist's polystyrene models and their straight, sharp lines. There is no room for error with this type of casting, as the original polystyrene model is 'lost' (pretty much vapourised actually) in the process.

The sculptures went on to be shown at White Cube in June 2010/
